"GANGS OF NEW YORK" (2002) Review

"GANGS OF NEW YORK" (2002) Review

With the exception of a few, many of Martin Scorsese's films have been set in the City of New York - whether in the past or present. One of those films is his 2002 Oscar nominated film, "THE GANGS OF NEW YORK". Read more...Collapse )

Series Two of "POLDARK" ended on a dark note for me. The last six of its ten episodes featured the adaptation of Winston Graham's 1953 novel, "Warleggan: A Novel of Cornwall, 1792-1793". And if I must be brutally honest, I was not happy with it. Not one bit. Due to my low opinion of Series Two's second half, I did not look forward to Series Three. Read more...Collapse )

"DEATH IN THE CLOUDS" (1992) Review

"DEATH IN THE CLOUDS" (1992) Review

There are two things one should know about Agatha Christie’s 1935 novel, "Death in the Clouds". One, it happened to be one of those "murder in a locked room" type of mysteries that she rarely wrote about. And two, I have not read the novel since high school. Read more...Collapse )

"THE CHISHOLMS" (1979): CHAPTER III Commentary

Chapter II of the 1979 miniseries, "THE CHISHOLMS" focused on the second leg of the western Virginia family's westbound journey to California in 1844. This last episode focused on their journey through Illinois and Missouri, culminating in their arrival in Independence, Missouri. Chapter III focused on the family's trek along the eastern half of the Oregon Trail, culminating with an unwanted encounter on the plains. Read more...Collapse )

"MARSHALL" (2017) Review

"MARSHALL" (2017) Review

I have a confession. I had no interest in seeing the recent movie, "MARSHALL", when I first heard about it. I thought it would turn out to be one of those solemn biography flicks about some "great man in history" and his struggles to become successful in his endeavors. But when I learned about the movie's plot, I changed my mind and decided to see it. Read more...Collapse )

Below is a list of my favorite episodes from the A&E series, "A NERO WOLFE MYSTERY". Based upon the detective stories and novels written by Rex Stout, the series starred Timothy Hutton and Maury Chaykin as Archie Goodwin and Nero Wolfe: Read more...Collapse )

"A POCKETFUL OF RYE" (1985) Review

"A POCKETFUL OF RYE" (1985) Review

There have been two adaptation of Agatha Christie's 1953 novel, "A Pocket Full of Rye". Well . . . as far as I know. I have already seen the recent adaptation that aired on ITV's "AGATHA CHRISTIE'S MARPLE" series in 2009. Recently, I watched an earlier adaptation that aired on the BBC "MISS MARPLE" series in 1985.
